Snapchat is one of the most popular social media apps in the world, with over 750 million monthly users. The app is known for its fun and creative features, such as AR filters, stickers, Bitmoji avatars, and disappearing messages.
But did you know that Snapchat also uses AI to analyze your photos and provide personalized recommendations?
In this article, we will explore how Snapchat’s AI bot, called My AI, works and what it can do for you. We will also look at some of the benefits and challenges of using generative AI in social media.
Snapchat users can currently access a chatbot called My AI. My AI can assist you in planning a hiking trip for a long weekend, provide choices for the best birthday present for your best friend, and even propose restaurants while you are having a chat conversation.
My AI is powered by OpenAI, a research organization that develops large language models based on deep learning. These models can generate natural language texts from a given input, such as a keyword, a phrase, or an image.
With its own Bitmoji-like avatars, Snapchat’s My AI will soon be accessible to everyone. The talks display similarly to how chats with other users of the app would. My AI initially appears to be a fun or social tool because it may be used for one-on-one conversations or in groups. My AI can suggest locations using Snapchat’s Map feature.
My AI will text-reply to photographs supplied to it, but a future version will also send back images created by AI in response to those images. A produced image of gazpacho soup, for instance, might be returned by the bot if you give a photo of tomatoes in a garden as an example.
Snapchat has not revealed the exact details of how My AI analyzes your photos, but we can make some educated guesses based on how similar systems work.
One possible way is that My AI uses computer vision techniques to detect and recognize objects, faces, emotions, and scenes in your photos.
Then, it uses natural language processing techniques to generate captions or descriptions for your photos. Finally, it uses natural language generation techniques to produce relevant and engaging responses or suggestions based on your photos.
Another possible way is that My AI uses generative adversarial networks (GANs) to create realistic images from your photos. GANs are composed of two neural networks: one that generates images (the generator) and one that evaluates them (the discriminator).
The generator tries to fool the discriminator by creating images that look like real photos, while the discriminator tries to distinguish between real and fake images. The two networks engage in rivalry and develop over time.
